How it works
- Swiss system, 5 rounds. Nobody is knocked out: everyone plays every round, each time against someone on the same score (or as close as possible), and never the same opponent twice.
- Pairings by computer using the FIDE (Dutch) Swiss system, 2025 rules (FIDE Handbook C.04.3, the rules used for FIDE-rated Swiss events). Colours are balanced over the event: as far as possible nobody gets the same colour three times in a row.
- Starting numbers go by rating, highest first; equal ratings by name, unrated players last. In round 1 the top seed plays White.
- Scoring: win 1 point, draw ½, loss 0. With an odd number of players, one player per round gets a bye worth 1 point (never the same player twice).
- Can't make a round? Tell the organizer before that round is paired: you can take a half-point bye (½ point) or withdraw. Late entries start with 0 points for the rounds they missed.
- Ranking: points first. Players on the same points are separated by these tie-breaks, in order:
- TB1 Buchholz Cut 1 — from round 2
- TB2 Buchholz
- TB3 Sonneborn-Berger
- TB4 Direct encounter — counts only when the tied players have all played each other
- TB5 Number of wins including byes
- TB6 Number of games won with Black
- Then starting number (lower ranks higher)
- Standings update when every result of a round is in, never part-way through a round. After the final round the organizer checks the results and ends the tournament, and the final ranking is published.
Pairings follow the FIDE Handbook (C.04) and tie-breaks FIDE C.07.
